On one hand, it feels like these little munchkins were born yesterday; and on the other, it feels like we've never lived a day without them. From the moment they came into the world, life as we knew it would never be the same. Any mom with multiples would agree, though they have redefined our lives, the love they provide grows exponentially with each passing day.
Luca weighs 32 lbs and is in the 91st percentile and Matteo weighs 27 lbs and is in the 65th percentile. They've come a long way since their preemie size. Physically, they've developed walking and running alone, kicking a ball, and pulling toys behind them while playing. Cognitively, they've begun make believe play and hide & go seek. They are drastically different in their social, emotional, and language skills. Luca is aware of himself and his name. He loves to play with other children at play group and he uses two word sentences to communicate his needs. If he wants something, he goes and takes it. Luca also has a a few fears that are peculiar and adorable: he doesn't like to try new foods, meet new grown-ups, or to have his hair brushed, but he is a real charmer. Matteo prefers to play independently and is more comfortable with pointing at what he wants. He prefers not to play with other children because he doesn't want them to take his toys. Smart! If he wants something, he will bite to get it. Ouch! (We're working on that.) Though Matteo has a sour side, his sweet side has far reaching effects. He is the sweetest little boy on the face of the earth. Matteo melts my heart when he runs toward me with open arms and a smile from ear to ear, as does Luca. Both babies are obsessed with their trains, puppies, and toy story characters. Needless to say, they are perfect!
